Halloween arrives one more year to the classrooms of Eurocolegio Casvi Boadilla. Our students up to 6th grade have celebrated Halloween with original costumes: vampires, ghosts, pumpkins, etc. They experience this holiday firsthand, thus developing their international mentality. They learn the origin and the specific vocabulary of this celebration that has a great tradition in the United States. But where did the tradition of Halloween originate?
Halloween is the contraction of All Hallow’s Eve (Halloween or Halloween). It is a festival of Celtic tradition, with origins in Samhain, an ancient festival to celebrate the end of summer and harvests. On this date, the Celts believed that the spirits reappeared and had the custom of placing candles, food and sweets on them.
Halloween in the classroom
Once again this year, the English department organized activities to introduce the vocabulary of this holiday in a playful way. By experiencing this holiday firsthand, they acquire a lifelong learning experience.
In Infantil they learn new vocabulary by experimenting, through games, dances, songs and other fun activities in English. For example, in 1st grade they sang and danced to the song “trick or treat”.
